When is Registration?

 

For the regular Spring Season- several dates in December and January are scheduled (posted on the news page).

 

For Fall Ball - Dates in May and spring closing ceremonies are set. Some sign-ups in June and July may be available on a first come-first serve space limited basis.

 

How will I be placed on a team?

 

All players 8 & U and up attend evaluation day, after which they will be drafted by the coach of a team. The purpose is to attempt to allow the managers to draft evenly distributed teams,it is not a tryout. Every softball player who signs up before the deadline will be drafted to a team. We attempt to place T-Ball (6U) players on teams according to their requests, buddies or from same schools when possible. In any case, there are no evaluations for T-Ball.

 

My daughter has never played, are new players encouraged?

 

Yes. We have new players at every age level, every year. We have a large number of new players from T-ball (6U) to 10U every year. Our coaches are instructed and trained to help the new player. And our "everyone participates" rules are there to help the new player or players of lesser abilities. Participation is what we hope for.

 

Can I be on my friend's team?

 

For 8U/10U/12U/14U Division players, only if you are drafted on the same team. There is only one way to avoid the uncertainty of the draft. If one of your parents is a manager or named coach, you will be on their team.

 

For T-Ball (6U) division players, if you and your friend request to play on the same team at registration every effort will be made to honor that request. We try to form the T-ball teams in groups of buddies or by where they attend school.

 

How will I find out on which team I am placed?

 

Your manager will call you usually within two weeks of the player evaluation day, after the division draft, by the first week of February. Since there are no tryouts for T-Ball, your managers will be in contact by the first week of February. For Fall ball- approximately August 1st.

 

Will I be on the same team as last year?

 

Not necessarily, it depends on which team drafts you. There are no frozen players except coaches daughters.

 

If I register before the deadline, will I definitely be placed on a team?

 

Yes, we will form as many teams as needed for the number of players who sign up in each division by the end of regular registration dates, unless we have so many teams and can't find enough coaches.

 

When is the last day to register?

 

The deadline for sign-ups is set season-to- season. If you sign up after the date posted on the website or on our flyers, then you will be charged a $15 late registration fee in addition to the regular fees. Anyone who wants to sign up after the deadline is subject to space availability and a possible waiting list. Anyone who signs up after the draft will be put on a waiting list, however placement will not be guaranteed. If a team in that division needs another player, the player agent will randomly assign that team a player from the waiting list.

 

Do I have to live in Fullerton or a certain area to play in this league?

 

No, there are no boundaries.

 

Do I get to keep my uniform?

 

Yes.

 

Must I wear my uniform to all games?

 

YES, you must wear your complete uniform at each game. If you are not in your uniform you will be ineligible to play that game.

 

What else does registration fees include?

 

It includes the uniform you get to keep, a basic photo package, an award (trophy or medal), and pays for the umpires, etc. We are a non-profit, completely volunteer run league.

 

 

How often will there be games and practices?

 

NOTE: This is information is a typical schedule. Your coach may practice a little more or less. Practices are at the discretion of the coach and are held at Lion's Field, Bastanchury Park or Adlena Park.

 

Practices

 

T-Ball (6u) teams generally practice once a week (twice in the pre-season) and have one game a week prior to spring break and two games a week starting after spring break (in which case one game is generally on Saturday and the other on a weekday). Other divisions generally have two games a week (unless rainouts cause another). Prior to opening day, there are usually two practices a week. During the season, practices are usually held only once a week. There may be an additional batting cage practice time scheduled for your child.

 

What time and where are games played at?

 

Weekday games are scheduled for 6pm in all divisions (14U may vary some if interleague play is scheduled). Saturday games are played all day long. All games are played at Lion’s Field and at the new Bastanchury Park complex (14U and up may have some games against other cities - interleague at that cities fields).

 

Can I play on a travel team and also on a league team at Fullerton Hills?

 

Yes, however if you have a desire to play all-stars, you must stop all activities with your travel team by March 31st otherwise you will be ineligible for the all-star team voting process. In addition, only four players any one all-star team may have participated with a travel team in the current year between Jan 1 and March 31, per ASA rule.

How can I help?

 

There are many ways for parents to help. The minimum that we ask is for you to be supportive of your child and the coaches of your team in any way the coaches ask you to help, and work in the snack bar for your assigned shift, unless you buy out of this activity. VOLUNTEER!! You could be a "team parent”, a scorekeeper, a field prep person, a helper or assistant at practices, or other tasks for the team. Show your support by attending as many games as possible and by helping out during practices, if you can. Keep in mind that these are young children out on the field and they need lots of encouragement. Be positive! All of our managers and coaches attend some training, and they may do things differently than you would. The only way to make things get done your way is to do them yourself, i.e. become a coach. Every year we need some new coaches. It is a very rewarding experience that can have a significant impact on the lives of a number of young people. We ask that all of our coaches attend a coaching clinic. We also fingerprint check our coaches. This is for the protection of our children and all records are confidential. If you are interested in coaching let us know right away. If you are interested in helping even more, and can invest a little more time and want to have more responsibility, we have a way! Our league is run by a small, hard-working group of volunteers. Every year we need new members for the Board of Directors or auxiliary positions. If you are interested, talk to one of the current Board members.

 

What does a team parent do?

 

The team parent is the liaison between the manager/coach and the other parents. (S)he is the person in charge of the annual fund-raiser for the team. (S)he must attend a team parent meeting. The team parent generally arranges for a female adult (over 18) to be at all practices and games, and coordinates the team's snack bar duty (scheduling parents for their shifts). (S)he makes arrangements for parents to take turns bringing after-game refreshments. She sits in the dugout area, or he ensures a female sits in the immediate dugout area at all games, and helps the girls in the dugout as required. In addition, the coach may make other requests, such as asking the team parent to make phone calls to remind players of practice times, etc.

 

What are my responsibilities as a parent?

 

You are responsible for getting your child to practices, games, and other team functions on time ( for games this usually means at least 45 minutes prior to game time, your coach will let you know) and picking up your child promptly afterwards, unless other arrangements are made with the coach ahead of time.

 

Attend league and team functions whenever possible.

 

Obey all league rules.

 

Maintain a two way line of communication with the coach. You should keep each other advised of scheduling changes or problems involving attendance at games and/or practices. Call in advance if your child will miss a practice or game.

 

Attend as many games as possible and cheer for the players. Derogatory remarks or gestures and other unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated by our league.

 

All players are required to participate in the fund-raiser, unless you buy out of this activity at registration. They need your support and cooperation.

 

How do I register a complaint?

 

We encourage you to talk to your coach first. Communication is very important! They should pass it on to the division player agent, who will communicate with the rest of the board if necessary. If you feel you cannot talk to the coach, or if you do not achieve satisfaction by that route, feel free to call the division player agent or the Board member on duty that day, if you feel it is urgent. What equipment do I need to provide?

 

Glove-For T-Ball players, almost any glove is adequate, as long as it is not too large (not from the little plastic 9" or less softee packet for indoors). For other players, you need to provide a softball glove (11 inch or bigger is recommended) and rubber cleats (no metal cleats) must be worn. For the older ages a larger glove is recommended; it's hard to catch a large ball with a small glove. Extremely cheap gloves made of vinyl (or leather and vinyl with plastic straps) are not recommended because they tend to break relatively easily. Slider or compression shorts are recommended to be worn under the uniform shorts.

 

Cleats - are required for all players to prevent slipping on the field while running, any softball or multi-purpose cleats will do.

 

Helmets - are mandatory and all helmets must have a face mask and chin strap.

 

A note on batting helmets: The League provides each team with helmets for the safety of our players. A recommendation is that you should purchase a personal helmet for your player (and instruct them not to loan it to anyone) to avoid the possibility of exposure to head lice.

 

We do provide bats, balls and catchers equipment.

 

What if it rains?

 

Sometimes we are able to determine whether or not there will be games early in the day, sometimes not until late afternoon, at which time we will record a voice mail message at the snack bar (714-525-4686) as soon as we have declared a rainout. Your manager should have someone coordinate calling his team.

 

Once games are started, rainouts can ONLY be called by the umpires at the field.

 

If you do not receive a phone call from your coach or team parent, it is important that you still show up for your game, so that you do not place your team in jeopardy of a forfeit (remember -- even if it's raining in your part of town, it may be clear to play at Lion’s Field).

 

You will be notified of your game's rescheduled date as soon as it is available. Updated schedules are also posted to the website. Please DO NOT call our scheduler to inquire about rescheduled game dates, or to request dates for reschedules. COACHES may contact the scheduler if there are questions about rescheduled games.

 

QUESTIONS CONCERNING SNACK BAR DUTY:

 

Who works in the snack bar?

 

Every family is required to provide a worker for 1 snack bar shift per player. Your child's team will be assigned a snack bar date(s) prior to the start of the season. Your team parent or snack bar coordinator will assign times and shifts, to fill your team's league assigned obligations.

 

But do coaches, team moms, scorekeepers & board members have to work, too?

 

Yes, unless they bought out of it at registration. Your team coordinator knows which families need to work, based upon this.

 

How long is a typical snack bar shift?

 

Approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on the day and schedule for that day.

 

I don't have a sitter. Can I bring my kids with me during my snack bar shift?

 

Not if they will be under your supervision. Only workers will be allowed in the snack bar area. For safety and health reasons, all snack bar workers must be at least 15 years of age. Please make appropriate arrangements before your snack bar shift.

 

What if it rains on the day of or during my shift?

 

The same rainout procedures apply for snack bar duty as for games, above. If your snack bar shift is cancelled or cut short due to rain, you probably will be rescheduled for a future date. The Snack Bar Director will contact your team coordinator if your team is rescheduled.
